Hello everyone, today we are going to talk about the Tangzu Audio Wanner SE. This is the second version of the original Wanner. The Jade version focuses more on aesthetics rather than sound, but it still has an appealing design that makes it a real eye-catcher for some.
The Tangzu Wanner SE is a significant step forward, especially for its price bracket, offering an interesting sound that might surprise and amaze some listeners. I personally appreciate the direction Tangzu has taken, as they are breaking their limits and expanding their in-house sound signature, which has been evident in their releases this year and last year.
The more you use the Wanner SE, the more enjoyable your listening experience becomes, and it can truly satisfy your sessions with this in-ear monitor. I avoid using the shortened term because it might make the sentence unclear for some.
Originally, I couldn't review this in-ear monitor and didn't have the chance, but a friend of mine in the audio hobby referred me to Tangzu Audio. I was really shocked and excited, as I had been waiting for the company to contact me. Without that friend, I would have personally bought the Wanner SE. For transparency, Tangzu sent me this unit in exchange for my review and opinions on the set. Also I am not paid in this review, everything I do is free and my own.
The outside packaging is pretty well designed; it showcases the essence of a princess. What I like about the outside packaging is that it’s well detailed and well drawn. It’s a huge step up from the original Wanner design. The art is more pronounced and emphasized. By the way this is reversable you can see the white version of this artwork.
Others might ask, 'Where on earth is the sound graph for this in-ear monitor?' Unfortunately, I don't have any graphs for this model, as I currently have no way to measure it. However, there are other reviewers who have provided a graph for the Wanner SE.
The Wanner Studio has two colorways, and both are available as of now. The colorway I got is the black version, which is very prone to smudges. Unlike the black version, the white version makes smudges less visible.
The build of the Wanner Studio is very similar to other versions, which is high quality grade resin imported from Germany, which is lightweight and comfortable, providing a fatigue-free wearing experience even after prolonged use.
Driver Responsiveness and sensitivity
In terms of responsiveness and drivability, this in ear monitor is exceptionally easy to drive. Even a modern smartphone can power it to its full potential without any issues. With a sensitivity of 16 ohms, it’s not only easy to drive but also capable of benefiting from higher-quality audio sources.
Now, let's talk about the other attributes of this in-ear monitor. This won't be a proper review if I only cover the surface, so I will be more detailed in my assessment.
Sound Profile
The Sound of the Wanner SE leans more towards a neutral profile, which is a new tuning for the Wanner lineup. Typically, Wanner earphones have a more fun sound with bright highs, but the SE focuses more on sound reproduction and accuracy, making it ideal for mixing and technical sound assessment. I was honestly surprised that for a budget in-ear monitor, it offers very technical performance, though not highly detailed but still above average in quality. When playing rhythm games, I use the Wanner SE because it provides great accuracy, precision, and speed, which are exactly what I need for my rhythm game sessions.
Bass region
The Bass is very satisfying and very pleasing, since for a referencing type signature it still has that slam and punch. The sub-bass has an ample amount of attack and rumble for a neutral listener this is a plus but for bass lovers, it might lack it for them. The mid-bass is very tight with great body and can satisfy a wide range of instruments and genres. if you're asking about bleeding or forms of bloat, this has none of it. Even when I tried it with bass-heavy tracks, it still didn't show any.
Mids Region
The Mids are delightful, marking a significant improvement over its predecessor, the first-generation Wanner SG. I refer to it as the 'first gen' because it was the original Wanner model released. The vocals are well-pronounced and very expressive. They're naturally forward without being forceful, and they retain the emotion in every word the singer delivers. Female vocals have great clarity and texture, almost akin to an authentic live concert experience. Male vocals have a heavier note weight, and the aggressiveness is honestly above average. The instruments are very well-pronounced, with a natural and authentic forwardness emphasized. The overall presentation is very forward, allowing the instruments to shine, and the clarity of the sound is highly satisfying, making it more engaging for both casual and neutral listeners.
Treble region
The treble is very refined and well-emphasized. The shine in the higher frequencies adds more color and clarity to the overall sound. The upper treble is concise and well-controlled, contributing additional detail to the sound. The higher treble is pronounced, but without making it sound overly boosted or artificial. In terms of brilliance, it is more controlled rather than aggressive.
Other aspects
The soundstage is truly impressive, delivering ample texture and clarity with well-defined layering of both vocals and instruments. The wide spacing is complemented by excellent definition. The imaging is neutral, handling a variety of tracks effortlessly, and it remains free from noticeable distortions. The separation of vocals and instruments is precise, making it easy for the ear to distinctly hear and locate each element within the soundscape. What impresses me the most is the way it captures both macro and micro details, which are highly evident and feel naturally presented. It brings out nuances in the sound that are often missed with other earphones, truly doing justice to every element.
Gaming performance in terms of sound
I tested the Wanner SE for gaming, and its accuracy and definition stood out. In rhythm games, it showcased all sounds with precise timing and responsive sound latency, enhancing the overall experience.
Conclusion
The Wanner SE is really a surprising move from Tangzu since it manage to still retain there in house signature but in a neutral monitoring style. If your a gamer that focuses on accuracy and precision then this is the right choice but in FPS or racing games you might find this weird.
PS
I want to thank once again Tangzu for giving me an opportunity to try the Wanner SE, since if i have not given a chance then it will be listed in my Wishlist. And also to Kent and Edz for trusting me to review this.
